According to the stories of the elders in the village, the name “Prenn” originates in the K’ho language. Initially, the waterfall was called “Prenh” (meaning bitter), but over time, it was mistakenly pronounced as “Prenn.” Naming it “bitter” might be due to the abundance of bitter eggplants, a wild variety with green bark that turns yellow when ripe, growing around the upper reaches of the waterfall. Indigenous people used to harvest and process these fruits for their distinct bitter taste.

However, a legend also suggests that “Prenn” has Cham origins. From the 15th to the 17th centuries, the area around Prenn Waterfall served as a battlefield between the invading Cham forces from Ninh Thuan – Binh Thuan and the K’ho people defending their territory. The name “Prenn” in the Cham language means “invaded region,” signifying the intrusion of foreign forces into the territories of indigenous tribes like Chi, Sré, and Lat.
